The migration of BraDypUS applications from version 4 to version 5 begins

The migration of BraDypUS applications hosted on the LAD infrastructure is underway: from version 4, so far available at bdus.cloud/db, to the new version 5, reachable at bdus.lad-sapienza.it. Anyone wanting to know more about what’s new in version 5 — a new interface, an open REST API, specialist plugins for archaeology — can read the presentation article on the LAD blog.

What changes right away

Every migrated application remains reachable at its old address, but read-only: a necessary choice to avoid the two copies of the same data diverging during the transition period. The data has been migrated with care, but anyone noticing anomalies or malfunctions is kindly asked to report them to Julian Bogdani (julian.bogdani@uniroma1.it).

Applications already migrated

The applications moved to version 5 so far are (list updated as of 11 September 2026):

  • bkg
  • capil
  • ccpdb
  • cfpuag
  • curia

Migration timeline

The plan is to complete the migration of all applications by the end of 2026. Afterwards, following a transition period of a few months (April 2027), the version 4 instances will be taken offline and stored in cold storage, remaining recoverable if needed.

This effort is part of LAD’s long-term strategy for maintaining the research data deposited on its infrastructure.
