Participation in the “Third meeting: Archaeology, Identity and Conflicts in the Balkans: The case of Albania”

On Saturday 7 December 2024, from 10 AM to 2 PM, the third meeting “Archaeology, Identity and Conflicts in the Balkans”, dedicated to Albania, will be held at INASA (Istituto Nazionale di Archeologia e Storia dell’Arte, Piazza di San Marco, 49), as part of the series of meetings on Archaeological Missions in the Mediterranean: historical research, identity and conflicts past and present.

The day is curated by L. M. Caliò and F. R. Fiano - Italia Nostra.

The contribution of Italian archaeology in Albania
Luigi Maria Caliò, University of Catania.

Full Professor of Classical Archaeology, he is the author of the volume “Romanitas. L’antichità romana e il fascismo tra Italia e Albania” and curated the exhibition “La presenza italiana in Albania tra il 1924 e il 1943. La ricerca archeologica, la conservazione, le scelte progettuali”.

Archaeology and Identity in the Balkans
Maja Gori, CNR - Institute of Heritage Science

Senior researcher and member of the Mission archéologique franco-albanaise du bassin de Korçë, she is director of the journal Ex-Novo. Journal of Archaeology, for which she edited “Balkan Archaeology as a Laboratory” and “The Impact of the fall of communism on european heritage”.

Critical Heritage: the heritage of the communist regime
Francesco Iacono, University of Bologna Alma Mater Studiorum

Associate Professor; for the Cultural Heritage of Dictatorship in Albania project, he is the author of “Exploring the Public Perception of Communist Heritage in Post-communist Albania” and “Revolution and counter-revolution; or why it is difficult to have a heritage of communism and what can we do”

Excavating at Çuka e Ajtoit: the project, the institutions and the communities
Julian Bogdani, Sapienza University of Rome

Associate Professor of Archaeological Research Methodology, he has directed Sapienza’s mission at Çuka e Ajtoit since 2021 in collaboration with the Albanian Institute of Archaeology of Tirana; the project involves Italian and Albanian students.
